that the bottom of the shifter goes through. I just couldn't get a good angle, I tried one side in first, then reversed in case it was the shifter's slight angle. I tried rotating the aluminum section, as one side is flat (I imagine for install) It was just barely too wide, and I couldn't get one side down in far enough to gain space to get the "neck" pressed against the fork. The hole is elongated, so I followed the curve forward and back and just took a little bit out. It was still a squeeze, but I got it in.
